Working Group on Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Work in Research Teams

Successful work in inter- and transdisciplinary research teams is increasingly becoming an integral part of a career as a scientist. Collaboration across different fields allows for examining topics and questions from various perspectives, leading to new insights. Moreover, collaboration is also desired by funding bodies, if not a prerequisite, especially when addressing global or regional challenges.

As enriching as the work in inter- and transdisciplinary teams is, there are also various questions and hurdles that need to be overcome: This starts with agreeing on definitions, continues with the joint use of methods, and ultimately culminates in the manner of interaction and collaboration within the team or project. Ultimately, the goal of inter- and transdisciplinary research teams should be to achieve the set targets together and to collaborate efficiently.

As research advisors, it is our task to pass on our experience and knowledge about inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration to scientists and research consortia and to support them in their work.

Central to our work is the collegial exchange about current developments and challenges. We discuss new insights into inter- and transdisciplinary work, try out creative and moderation techniques in workshops, and invite external experts for new impulses.

Members of the network from universities, universities of applied sciences, and non-university research institutions are equally addressed and warmly welcome to participate in the working group.
