Working Group on Research Assessment

The (German speaking) Working Group Research Assessment addresses the question of whether and how the (research) performance of scientists can be recognised, compared, measured and evaluated. Through mutual exchange and examination of best practice examples, we aim to discuss suitable options, measures and methods as well as obstacles to research performance evaluation with colleagues. The working group initially focuses on two main topics:

  • The evaluation of researchers' scientific achievements for internal university decisions and processes, e.g. in the proactive approach and selection of suitable high performers for specific funding programmes or science awards, for example in the selection of individuals within the framework of university management or in appointment and personnel management processes. This also involves criteria for research assessment and instruments for research information (research information systems, external university databases, research methods, bibliometric methods and benchmarking).
  • Measuring the success of research support structures itself: How can we evaluate which measures in the area of research funding support and advisory services are successful and which are not?

The topics of science awards, research information systems, and international reforms of research assessment (e.g. within the framework of CoARA and SF DORA) have been on our agenda recently.

The Working Group on Research Assessment meets several times a year, either in person or online. Upcoming dates are announced in the members’ area of the website and via the newsletter. FORTRAMA members from universities, universities of applied sciences, and non-university research institutions are equally invited and warmly welcome to participate in our working group. Feel free to send us an email or a message via the FORTRAMA members’ portal.
